Contractor Safety Management – Improving EH&S Performance

If we really want to improve safety in the workplace, we must focus on ways and means to improve Contractor Safety. This is because contractors are injured or killed in the workplace 3-4 times more frequently than employees. For those of us who have been involved in working to improve contractor safety, we know this is an intensely difficult task, particularly as owners send mixed messages to contractors. As owners, we demand getting the job done quickly and safely while budgets are squeezed to the limits to manage costs, often at the expense of HSE.
Today owners are invested more than ever in improving the HSE performance of contractors. This is so because contractors perform on average ~80% of the work performed on industrial and commercial worksites. We are tied at the hips and in most instances our businesses cannot function effectively without the work of contractors.
This workshop is designed to help personnel involved in managing contractor’s performance better understand and implement practical principles for improving Contractor Safety performance. The principles discussed in this workshop are tried and tested and will deliver improvements in contractor safety performance in any work environment.
In this presentation, Dr. Lutchman explores alternative approaches to managing contractor safety performance. He addresses the challenges faced by various contractor groups and proposes solutions designed to address the HSE performance management and challenges of the various contractor groups.
